Abstract:
Achieving China´s dual carbon goal in the era of big data depends on the coordinated development of digitization and low-carbonization. As the interaction between these two domains becomes more complex and integrated across various fields, systematically reviewing their collaborative development is of great significant importance for subsequent theoretical research and practical innovation. However, current research lacks a comprehensive analysis of the theoretical foundations and practical implications of their synergy. This study fills this gap by analyzing literature focusing on both digitization and low-carbonization from 2009 to 2022, supplemented by statistical data from the same period. It employs bibliometric analysis, social network analysis and the coordination degree model of composite systems to explore the evolution of collaboration between the two fields. The findings reveal that: (1) Literature on the synergy between digitization and low-carbonization in China can be divided into two phases: 2009-2019 and 2020-2022. In the first stage, research focused primarily on low-carbon development, while the second phase saw a shift towards green finance and broader integration areas. (2) In the practical context spanning from 2009 to 2022, the composite system of digitalization and low-carbonization exhibited a substantial enhancement in its synergy degree, transitioning from −0.012 to 0.638, thereby achieving a moderate level of synergy. Throughout this interval, the state of synergy underwent fluctuations, experiencing phases of mild dissynergy, mild synergy, moderate synergy, and subsequently moderate dissynergy. Notably, following its nadir of −0.599 in 2020, the synergy degree experienced a marked surge of 206.51% within a two-year period, indicating a clear trajectory towards achieving a high level of synergy. This research demonstrates that during the study period, the collaborative development of digitization and low-carbonization in China has progressed from an emergent stage to a phase of loose association, and eventually to a closer linkage. While advancements in literature research have deepened, practical collaboration has experienced fluctuations but has generally stabilized at an intermediate level. Looking ahead, a higher level of collaboration between these two systems is expected to be achieved in the future.
