Abstract: A new water quality assessment method the function index method is introduced in this paper. Designed in this method, the singlefunction index HjEf33 and the function index vector A are capable of providing information such as the function value of a waterbody, the water quality or pollution level of a water body, and the major pollutants and their factors surpassing the standards.
