Abstract: The paper presents discussions on the rational division of the water environment protection functional zones in Du River basin as well as analysis of the achievability of the functions. The principles, methodology and the basis of the division of functional zones are determined, the water quality standards and pollution discharge as well as the water quality variation trends are forecasted. The technical and economic analysis of treatment alternatives of the major pollution-receiving reaches of the river has also been conducted. Based on the above analysis, some recommendations on the pollution treatment approaches have been proposed.
