Abstract: The selenium contents in sample soils have been determined for Guizhou Province with an area of 176 000 km+2.The arithmetic mean of 947 samples is 0.39 mg/kg,the median value is 0.30 mg/kg,and the selenium contents varied from 0.06 to 1.29 mg/kg in the soils over the province.It is shown that most areas in Guizhou are moderate in selenium contents.Since most soils in Guizhou come from the weathering of the basement rocks in place,the selenium contents in the soils are restricted by the basement rocks.
