Abstract: Under the great pressure of the population,the total area of farmlands returning to lakes is limited in China.From the viewpoint of sustainable development,the authors suggest that the main functions of the lakes and the groups of lakes in suburbs of megapolises should be converted to modify urban ecological and environmental quality and play their role in landscape aesthetics.As an example of the view,the authors put forward concrete suggestions on ecological rehabilitation and landscape aesthetics construction for Dongxihu in Wuhan City.
