Abstract: Based on field investigation and data collection,and using 2000 and 1988 remote sensing data,the condition of wetland in mid-eastern China was analyzed and assessed.The results show that there are many kinds of wetlands in mideastern China,with wide area but uneven distribution;the wetlands have been strongly destroyed mainly by artificial reclamation,agricultural production activities and construction of water conservancy works;their functions have been reduced and the diversity decreased due to shrinking of the area of wetlands,which has resulted in frequent floods in the region.
