Abstract:
Concentrations of 16 organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) residues in sediments from Jiangsu section of Huaihe River, China, were determined using gas chromatography coupled by ECD detector (GC-ECD). The level range of OCPs in sedimentswas 8.88~16.22 ng/g. Analysis of distribution characteristics of components showed that HCHs were mainly the early residue in sediment and remote atmosphere pollutant transport. DDTs residues in sediments were not only related to the earlyresidues in environment, but also related to input of DDTs components in near term. According to correlation analysis between OCPs and TOC, TOC content influences the distribution of OCPs in sediment strongly. Compared with other region, the contamination level of OCPs in sediment of Huaihe River was middle. According to sediment quality guidelines for freshwater ecosystem, OCPs impose relatively lower ecological risk on sediment-dwelling organisms.
