Abstract:
An inexact chance-constrained interval linear programming (ICILP) model wasproposed based on economical cost and environmental impact analysis in the process of municipal solid waste management. This model was provided for supporting the waste management system in the Haidian District in Beijing City, and the results with different violation levels were analyzed. The results indicated that higher violation level of treatment capacity constraint may lead to more waste diverted to incinerator and composting facilities, while it may not cause a highersystem cost. A new waste management system for Haidian District was proposed inthis study: based on the existing waste management system, incinerator and composting facilities would be applied in the Haidian District, so that more waste would be gradually diverted to incinerator and composting facilities. Although more system cost would be caused by the proposed optimization model, the lifespan of the landfill would be extended, and environmental impact would be reduced. Therefore, the proposed optimization model is feasible and practical in the long run.
