Abstract:
Based on 3S technology, this research analyzed and discussed variation characteristics of the value of ecosystem services in Neihuang County of the North Plain of Henan Province during the period 1979 to 2003. Results showed that differences in land utilization had a direct impact on the ecosystem services value, which experienced remarkable increases during the last 25 years in the study area. Ecosystem services from cultivated fields and forests accounted for about 80% to 90% of the total service value. Eco-environmental quality of the studied region improved during the last 25 years, and the value of ecosystem services increased by 260 million yuan. In the study area, the area of woodlands and gardens increased, part of which were transferred from unused lands, and others came from cultivated land. This tendency reflects the positive impact of population growth and economic development needs, as well as demonstrating that local residents and authorities are more aware of environmental issues and paying more attention to the ecosystem.
